Energy system models

Overview

Fraunhofer ISI develops and deploys detailed bottom-up models for its customers that maps the diffusion of innovations throughout the entire energy system, from energy demand to energy supply.

The energy system models are linked to macro-economic models that illustrate the economic effects of the energy transition.

All models cover at least the individual countries of the European Union and the timeframe until 2050. They are based on a uniform and coordinated framework.

Extensive databases, based on statistical and empirical data, as well as detailed technology data from practice, support the validity of the results.

The models are developed and operated at Fraunhofer ISI or in cooperation with long-term partners. This ensures a high degree of flexibility regarding the orientation of the content of the models according to the questions posed and the customer's wishes. The inclusion of software developers ensures professional programming of the models.

Fraunhofer ISI as well supports clients in designing, developing und using their own energy system models: From the very first steps of surveying necessary data, to building up harmonized databases and constructing energy use models to derive policy recommendations.
