Demand-side measures in the IPCC report: What’s the role of lifestyle changes and sufficiency in the transition?
The outcome of cooperation between thousands of scientists, the work of the IPCC marks a keystone in climate policy, with the 6th IPCC report bringing a stark warning on the need to reduce emissions rapidly.
Working Group III of the IPCC focuses on climate change mitigation, assessing different methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The new WGIII report has a number of innovations, including a new section on demand, services and the social aspects of mitigation.
This workshop will focus on the key takeaways about demand-side mitigation measures from the chapter, with IPCC author Leila Niamir and discussants Doris Fuchs, Elisabeth Dütschke, and Edouard Toulouse, who will connect the core messages of the report to research needs and insights. Andrew Simms, from the Rapid Transition Alliance, will chair the event, bringing in his wide-ranging expertise on the topic of climate mitigation.
