Background

To date, there is no satisfactory data on greenhouse gas emissions in the cultural sector. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of a data collection tool that meets the specific requirements of the cultural sector. Against this background, Fraunhofer ISI together with GICON®-Großmann Ingenieur Consult GmbH is supporting the two Saxon cities of Leipzig and Dresden in the development of a corresponding instrument as part of the project "Climate assessment of urban cultural institutions and (cultural) events".

Project description

A concept for implementing the project was first developed with the participation of municipal cultural institutions in Leipzig. This was followed by specialist support and training for the municipal institutions in the drafting of greenhouse gas balances, with three institutions being involved in a separate pilot process. Ultimately, the focus was on the development of a web-based CO₂ calculator, which was adapted on the basis of an existing calculator for the craft sector. This "E-Tool Culture" is already being made available free of charge to cultural institutions in Leipzig and Dresden. At the same time, the participation process with the municipal and, since 2024, independent cultural institutions in Leipzig is continuing under the leadership of Fraunhofer ISI.

Our services

In this project, Fraunhofer ISI is responsible in particular for the design, implementation, documentation and analysis of the participation process with over 150 cultural institutions from Leipzig and Dresden. The aim here is to design the " E-Tool Culture" in such a way that it enjoys a high level of acceptance among the people involved in the institutions. The various workshops and network meetings - both online and in person - are designed to achieve this. In addition, two easy-to-understand manuals for using the "E-Tool Culture" were developed together with GICON®-Großmann Ingenieur Consult GmbH.
