Researcher
Pierre Achkar has been working as a researcher in the Data Science for Innovation Research Unit since May 2024, initially for the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW in Leipzig. Since January 1, 2025, the unit is part of Fraunhofer ISI in Leipzig. Achkar previously worked for two years as a researcher in the same unit, where he gained extensive experience.
Before joining Fraunhofer, he worked in the field of Business Intelligence (BI), where he was intensively involved in analyzing large amounts of data, creating dashboards and training machine learning algorithms.
Pierre Achkar completed both his bachelor's degree in Business Informatics and his master's degree in Data Science at the University of Leipzig. In his master's thesis, he investigated the training of multimodal AI for simultaneous text and image data processing in the context of social media.
His main area of expertise is Natural Language Processing (NLP) with a special focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) and their integration into information retrieval systems. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the Webis Group in the new research area Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
