Healthcare and nursing are increasingly supported by IT applications. Informed consent is required from patients in order to use and analyse their data. This privacy management is very important as it involves sensitive health data. Particularly in the case of prolonged app use, there may be a need to be able to revoke or modify consent once it has been given. In the context of changing requirements over the course of an illness or its treatment (patient journey), this is of increasing importance for the handling of sensitive data in IT systems.
The project deals with the challenges that arise when using health apps with regard to informed consent to data processing, privacy requirements and app design (privacy by design). The initial aim is to develop an innovative concept for transparent and flexible privacy management in health apps in order to support the informational self-determination of patients. Subsequently, so-called “privacy patterns” are to be developed and validated for product managers and software developers of digital health applications. The use of these privacy patterns is intended to facilitate informed consent, transparency and intervenability for patients when using health apps.
