Sven Kunze has a Bachelor's degree in political science and economics from Tübingen and Rio de Janeiro and subsequently completed a Master's degree in economics in Heidelberg. His main areas of study were environmental economics, development economics, and applied econometrics. As part of his doctorate in economics at the University of Heidelberg, he worked on the empirical analysis of the economic impact of climate-related natural disasters and the political economy analysis of disaster management. For his doctorate, he completed research stays at the University of Bern and the University of California, Berkeley. From 2021-2023, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, researching the empirical effects of climate change on agricultural land use change.
Since 2024, he has been a research associate and project manager at the Competence Centre Sustainability and Infrastructure Systems.
