On the undergraduate level she studied applied political science at the Higher School of Economics (Russia). Maria Karaulova’s core interest is in governance of science, technology and innovation, in particular, organising the incentives for publicly funded research to create value in society on the one side and the conditions for scientific knowledge uptake on the other. To that end, she conducted mixed-methods research on academic mobility and careers, emerging technologies, research quality assessment, and the use of research in policymaking.
