Green hydrogen from South Africa

On May 29, 2024, Prof. Michael Kahn will be a virtual guest at Fraunhofer ISI with his lecture “Green hydrogen from South Africa”.

The Fraunhofer ISI lecture series bundles exciting topics from the Fraunhofer ISI portfolio and offers opportunities for discussion and exchange at regular intervals.

Abstract

The South African enterprise SASOL has a long tradition in the areas of chemistry and energy, in particular the transformation of coal into oil. The company was previously certified for the production of aviation biofuels. It now confronts the emerging field of decarbonisation as a business imperative. Climatic conditions favour solar and wind renewable energy. With various international partners, SASOL has commenced development of green hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuels, of green ammonia as fertilizer feedstock and the implementation of carbon capture and use in the production of cement.
