University seminar

How can companies shape their business models digitally and sustainably to make themselves fit for the future?

This is the question that 16 students of industrial engineering, technical economics and business informatics are investigating in the seminar "Development of sustainable digital business models" at the Chair of Innovation and Technology Management (iTM) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Students of industrial engineering, technical economics and business informatics have been working on digital, sustainable business models in a seminar at KIT.

The seminar is being offered again this winter semester by our colleague Dr. Daniel Duwe. In it, students learn about the structure of (digital) business models as well as the dimensions and relevant frameworks of sustainability.

On this basis, they develop concepts for describing sustainable digital business models, which they apply using specific case studies from areas such as mechanical and plant engineering, drive technology, the insurance industry and food technology. The ideas presented today range from intelligent, networked production systems to blockchain-based circular economy platforms and social recovery mechanisms.

The knowledge and results of this seminar will be transferred directly into practice. After the results were mirrored live with Amazon Web Services (AWS) last semester, the results of the group work on the Schwarz Group were discussed today with Mr. Weigler from the Dieter Schwarz Foundation as a guest.
