Dr. Juliane Welz

Deputy Head of the Department of Knowledge and Technology Transfer, Head of Futures and Innovation Unit

Dr. Juliane Welz has been working for Fraunhofer since July 2017, initially for the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW in Leipzig. She heads the Futures and Innovation Unit and is also Deputy Head of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Department since November 2024, which has been part of Fraunhofer ISI in Leipzig since January 1, 2025.

Dr. Welz studied geography at Leipzig University and completed her doctorate in human geography at the University of Hamburg (2012). From 2007 to 2016, she worked as a research associate at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in the Department of Urban and Environmental Sociology, focusing on social and environmental science issues in an international context, urban transformations in Latin American megacities and issues of urban vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. Dr. Welz has many years of experience in inter- and transdisciplinary research cooperation.

Her current field of activity focuses on the development of future knowledge in interdisciplinary technology research in the impact network of society and the environment and combines this with methodological tools of futurology (foresight) as well as knowledge and technology transfer. Fields of application include the digitalization of agriculture, climate adaptation and value creation, networked research and innovation work.
