Evaluation of the three pilot innovation competitions launched by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) – the Agentur für Sprunginnovationen

Before the establishment of the “Agentur für Sprunginnovationen”, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has announced three pilot innovation competitions in fields of particular technological and social relevance. The aim of the evaluation is to use the insights gained from these competitions for subsequent initiatives for jump innovations.

Specifically, the three pilot innovation competitions “Energy-efficient AI system”, “Weltspeicher” (a worldwide applicable domestic storage device for renewable electric power) and “Lab grown organ replacement” are to be evaluated with regard to their funding approach, the participants and the level of innovation of the projects. A further area of evaluation is the analysis of the market and application proximity of the projects in the respective competitions.

The aim of the evaluation is the collection, documentation and professional assessment of the target effectiveness of the three pilot innovation competitions as well as the critical feedback to the BMBF for the optimized implementation of further contests within the framework of the “Agentur für Sprunginnovationen”. The methodical and technical-content-related findings from the evaluation serve the impact analysis, further steering, overall coordination and monitoring of the further activities of the “Agentur für Sprunginnovationen”.
