Project

Company case studies on the effects of the Corona crisis on organizational transformation processes

The project examines the effects of the Corona crisis on organizational transformation processes currently underway in companies in the manufacturing sector. The results will be compiled on the basis of case studies for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, this study examines the extent to which the Corona crisis has hindered, changed or triggered organizational transformation processes in manufacturing companies. The analyses focus on the following questions:

  • What measures were taken to cope with the crisis?
  • Which groups of employees were particularly affected?
  • Are there differences in the extent to which employee groups were affected (gender, age, qualification profiles, etc.)?
  • Which forms of participation facilitated the management of the crisis?

In order to carry out the project, the following methods are applied:

  • document analyses on the effects of the Corona crisis
  • semi-structured expert interviews
  • structuring content analysis as a basis for case study-based comparison of four cases

The project results are incorporated into the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs' reporting on changes in the world of work, which is aimed at companies, the social partners, labour policy makers and the interested public. The reporting includes the annual Labour Report and the Labour Portal, which supplements the report with recent empirical findings.
