Bio-economy alliance to raise excellence by enhancing innovation and knowledge valorisation within the bio-economy domain at Higher Education institutions in Widening countries in Central-Eastern (CEE) and South-Eastern European (SEE) EU Member States and the Western Balkans

The European Commission (EC) launched its updated Bioeconomy Strategy in 2018, facilitating a more proportionate sharing of the benefits of a competitive and sustain-able bioeconomy across European territories and value chains among its objectives. As a platform for coordination and cooperation of R&I activities, ERA aims to strength-en the scientific and technological bases of the EU, and of making the EU more attractive for researchers to work and collaborate. Widening stakeholders are not taking full advantage of the opportunities offered by the EU funding sources. This has direct impacts for citizens on turnover, jobs, welfare, access to innovation, and labour productivity amongst numerous factors.

Improved global competitiveness and visibility of higher education institutions (HEI) will be achieved through establishing effective technology and know-how transfer between Widening countries and EU14 member states with more developed bioeconomies and R&I ecosystems, exploring and adopting structural reforms, educational priorities, and a culture of excellence.

Fraunhofer ISI supports BEAMING partners to achieve major goals in areas dedicated to Bioeconomy Research, technology transfer and socio-economic impacts focusing on strategies and activities aligned to the needs and requirements of HEIs to elevate their scientific excellence while improving framework conditions for technology transfer and increased socio-economic impact. Apart from this, Fraunhofer ISI develops a research assessment concept to be used by HEIs to make sure that research at HEIs not only contributes to the knowledge advancement and scientific excellence, but also helps achieve important societal and economic goals.
