Prof. Dr. Patrick Plötz

Coordinator of Business Unit Energy Economy

Prof. Dr. Patrick Plötz is Coordinator of Business Unit Energy Economy at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI. He leads or works in many national, European, and International projects on the electrification of transport, energy system analysis, and CO2 mitigation policies.

Patrick Plötz has studied Physics in Greifswald, St. Petersburg, and Göttingen. He holds a doctorate degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Heidelberg, and has also completed undergraduate studies in Philosophy and History of Science in Göttingen. He completed his habilitation in Economics with a thesis on electrification of Road transport at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, has been a private lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since 2020 as well as adjunct professor for Sustainable Energy and Transport at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg (Sweden) since 2024.

Prof. Dr. Plötz has over ten years of experience in energy research, having served as a researcher in the Competence Center for Energy Technology and Energy Systems at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI since 2011.
