Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important, due to high energy prices and climate change. Therefore, the Business Unit Energy Efficiency analyses technologies, instruments and measures to increase energy efficiency and develops appropriate strategies for enterprises and politics. The business unit researches systems and innovations for raising the energy efficiency with three thematic priorities:
- The Group of Technological Innovations focusses on the use and development of energy efficient technologies, mainly in the industrial and building sectors, with emphasis on technological innovation potential and the technological contributions of solutions to the reduction of energy demand.
- The Group of Strategies and Instruments researches the shaping of political and business tools for the innovation-based strengthening of energy efficiency and competitiveness. The Group offers comprehensive strategic consultancy as well as the development of concrete instruments for direct use in politics and business.
- The Group of Analysis and Assessment focusses on an integrated approach of the economic, technical, organisational and societal consequences of technological innovations, instruments and strategies, including barriers and promoting factors for the use of these technologies on all levels of the innovation system.
Coordinator of the Business Unit is Dr. Andrea Herbst.
