Dr. Christiane Bernath

Researcher

Dr. Christiane Bernath joined Fraunhofer ISI in October 2016 as a research associate in the Business Unit Electricity Markets and Infrastructures of the Competence Center Energy Policy and Energy Markets. Her research areas are the modeling of energy systems with a focus on the sector coupling of electricity and heat as well as the modeling of decarbonization of district heating grids. She works in European and national research and consulting projects on renewable energy and heat grids.

In 2023, Dr. Christiane Bernath received her PhD in economics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Her dissertation dealt with the impact of sector coupling of electricity and heat through heat grids on the European power generation system. Previously, she studied industrial engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), specializing in energy economics, renewable energies, and electrical power engineering. She wrote her master's thesis at the Institute for Operations Research at KIT on the topic "Comparison of optimization models for the location planning of ambulances".
