Heat roadmap Germany: Aligning district energy and building energy renovation – A vision on strategic integrations

The Heat Roadmap Europe project helps to build the knowledge, skills and capacity required to enable new policies and encourage new investments in the heating and cooling sector. Fraunhofer ISI contributes to the project with applying its bottom-up model FORECAST for a detailed profiling of today’s heating and cooling demand in Europe as well as for simulating its future evolution. A workshop organized in Berlin on January 24, 2019, will focus on the topics district energy and building energy renovation.

The first part in the morning will deal with the key link between district energy and building renovation and how to align governance in a strategic approach to combine and integrate them, with presentations from the project and frontrunner cities.

In the afternoon, a Market Uptake Dialogue session will be organised: after a short introduction into the research done to develop business cases and business strategies to encourage market uptake, the event will focus on how to decarbonise the energy system, gathering and discussing cases from the audience to investigate replicability. How to address barriers for the market uptake of recommended heating and cooling solutions? What are the policy recommendations to derive from them?

The project Heat Roadmap Europe ends in 2019 after 6 years of research. It provided new capacity and skills for lead-users in the heating and cooling sector by developing the data, tools, methodologies and results necessary to quantify the impact of implementing more energy efficient measures on both the demand and supply side of the sector.

The event is in English and free, but registration is required by January 15, 2019. If you have difficulties with the registration, you can contact marine.faber@bpie.eu.
