Our six Competence Centers encompass different areas of research with a wide range of interesting projects: Energy Policy and Energy Markets, Energy Technology and Energy Systems, Foresight, Sustainability and Infrastructure Systems, Emerging Technologies and Policy and Society as well as Innovation and Knowledge Economy.
Freedom of research
At Fraunhofer you are given the scope to develop your research interests. We support you in honing your idea, applying for research projects and acquiring industrial clients.
Working autonomously in a team
You work independently in motivated teams and are encouraged to assume responsibility. Our flat organizational structure supports autonomous working.

We can open the doors to numerous national and international contacts with access to the leading communities within academia and outside it.
Interdisciplinarity
Researchers from all kinds of disciplines work together in our project teams. This means different approaches, ways of thinking and methods are used and our projects are tackled in an interdisciplinary way.
Compatibility of work and family
Work-life balance is important to our employees. Fraunhofer ISI offers flexible working hours, part-time work models and the possibility to work from home. Numerous sport and health-related services are offered because we care about the well-being of the people who work for and with us. We have reserved places for the children of employees in two nearby day care centers. We also offer help with child care arrangements during the school holidays and emergency child care.
Personnel development
We rely on intelligent and committed employees who want to play their part in contributing to progress and innovations. Professional and personal further development is therefore a priority. We offer a wide range of vocational education and training courses. You have the opportunity to develop your skills following our in-house personnel development program, or you can attend external seminars to gain further qualifications.
