Dr.-Ing. Björn P. Moller

Björn Moller is a physicist with a Ph.D. in engineering and has been working at Fraunhofer ISI as a trend researcher and futurist since 2011. In the business unit Foresight for strategy development, he supports clients and customers in recognizing and analysing signals, trends and possible future developments and in preparing them in a structured manner for their own needs. His focus is on the scientific investigation of questions concerning the drivers of change in societies, technologies and markets, such as “What changes are foreseeable?“ or “What could surprise us?“ In his work, he tries to provide arguments for topics, despite and especially in the case of high complexity, in order not to overlook any relevant developments and to be able to consciously deal with uncertainties. In this way, he supports companies in the early recognition of opportunities in future markets and the development of robust future strategies.

In his projects, he researches and uses a wide variety of methods of futurology such as road mapping, scenario processes, horizon scanning or trend radars. He has many years of experience in the conception and moderation of future dialogues and participative workshops, in which he develops options for action with stakeholders from a wide range of industries, sectors and cultures. The topics of his projects are broadly diversified, and he has special foresight expertise in the fields of mechanical engineering, food and agriculture.

Björn Moller studied physics at the University of Würzburg and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He then completed his doctorate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB and the University of Stuttgart in the field of material sciences. He taught methods of futurology at KIT and held numerous guest lectures, among others, at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Villingen and the Weincampus Neustadt. Since 2011, he has been working in the Competence Center Foresight at Fraunhofer ISI, where he manages numerous projects for private and public clients on a national and international level.
