Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISIPiret Fischer (born Kukk) finalised her studies of Molecular Diagnostics at the Tartu University, Estonia in 2005 with Master’s degree after which she completed European Studies on Science and Technology (ESST) at the Maastricht University, The Netherlands, in 2007 with Master of Arts. In 2016 she received a PhD at the Utrecht University, in her doctoral thesis she investigated, how the pharmaceutical industry markets personalised cancer medicines, title of the thesis: ‘Complexities in building innovation systems: the case of radical medical technologies’.
In between her studies, Dr. Fischer worked as a researcher at the University College London (2004) and the CIRCLE Research Institute, Lund University (2007). Furthermore, is completed a traineeship at the European Commission, Directorate General of Research, Directorate for Biotechnologies, Brussels (2006). From 2007 until 2008 she was the leader of a working group writing “Estonian National Biotechnology Strategy 2008-2013” while working for the Estonian Biotechnology Association and from 2009 until 2010 worked at EuropaBio (The European Association for Bioindustry) on regulatory affairs.
Since March 2010, she is employed as researcher in the Competence Center Emerging Technologies of the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in Karlsruhe. Since 2016 she is working as a senior project manager in the Business Units Innovations in the Healthcare Sector as well as Bioeconomy.
